    Thank you both for replying!
Zombie13 made it through yet another harrowing deadline -this time at my medical expense! (He worked an extra 6 hours both last M-T and was at the lab on W until late getting his troublesome rack reconfigured and shipped.)
I rescheduled my 2 tests for early July, and we will have to wait and see if he keeps his end of the bargain and actually takes me to this early morning visit without bemoaning how he is unable to support and troubleshoot his all-important racks. He even said that were I to die, he wouldn't change anything in his life, he would just continue at this job until he can no longer physically do what is expected of him by the big D. If Zombie were to die, I would want to relocate immediately to a different place with my fur babies and begin life anew. I would not be able to go on as if nothing happened as he could!!!!!
We definitely want different things out of life. I am not sure I can wait for him to reach 70 before I can begin to live and see more of the world after 5 frustrating years in BK 13 and all the setbacks, health and otherwise, I've encountered since we moved here.
To show how much he loves this grueling on-site job, he giddily showed me a message from his supervisor where his boss offered him a tepid "thank you" for his many months of extra, extra hard work. To him, this "appreciation" is worth more than a competitive salary and the comparable PTO and holidays other senior engineers enjoy!
Whenever I tell acquaintances the terms and conditions of his "dream" position, most are shocked and horrified that he is so willing to settle for such a veritable "demotion": a senior level engineer working like a beginning level 1 to 2 and apparently welcoming every unpleasant obstacle they constantly throw his way, it's simply unheard of.
